Health/diet-wise this was not the best of weekends. But, honestly, I really don’t sweat the weekends. Friday, we went to the burial of my wife’s uncle. I was led to believe it would be a short ceremony and we’d be home shortly later. What she failed to mention was a family gathering afterwards. Normally that would be just fine. However, since I thought we’d only be gone for a couple hours, I didn’t plan for food.
I had my normal protein drink, with my pills, and then we headed out. The ceremony was nice, with Coast Guard Honor Guard in attendance. The Lord’s Prayer was said, my wife’s aunt received the flag, and then my wife read a short blessing. As we wrapped up, a pair of nearby geese took off and did their best Top Gun fly-by on their way out. It was very fitting.
Here’s where things fell apart a bit… around noonish I started to get the shakes along with light-headedness. Obviously, blood sugar issues. Then along came the sweats and foggy vision. My wife brought me a couple slices of cheese to snack on, but that didn’t really help much, so I headed out to the car. There I found a berry fruit pie, kind of like a Hostess pie. I woofed that down and sat for several minutes. I knew I was setting myself up for a slingshot ride, but it worked for the moment. Shortly after going back inside, lunch was ready, I had some chili and cheese. I also threw back a few slices of some pretty amazing sourdough bread. After a bit more conversation, we headed out and the rest of the day was fairly uneventful.
Saturday was reasonably uneventful. I sat around and got caught up on Supercross and a few other things, sitting on the Tivo. The cold rain is a serious demotivator!
Well, as we all know, Sunday was the Super Bowl. I give myself a pass for the Super Bowl. It is a time to eat and drink, and that is what I did. I guess if there was an upside, it would be the fact that my stomach started shrinking a few weeks ago. This makes it harder to eat anywhere close to how much I want. I used a cast iron skillet and made a bowl out of hot digs, cut into thirds, wrapped in crescent dough. Then I poured a can of chili in the middle, topped it with cheese, and backed until golden brown. I was only able to eat about half of that. I had some chips with bean dip, a few beers, a Weinhard’s Root Beer (that I bought just for the occasion), and several glasses of water. Later, I also had a couple pieces of cake.
End the end, I gained 1.6lbs over the weekend. A much better result than I had expected. And, despite the results of the game, I had a good time watching it; while chatting with Facebook friends. Yes, I do enjoy a good virtual party!
