• Sweet, zesty, and tasty! This is one of my all time favorite recipes for a dipping sauce. It is really simple to make and, refigerated, lasts a fairly long time. I usually store it in a re-purposed plastic ketchup bottle.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons ground black pepper
  • 1 1-1/4 oz. package chili seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon powdered ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoons ground mace
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (or equiv. fresh garlic)
  • 1 cup distilled vinegar
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons pineapple juice
  • 1 tablespoons Meyer’s Dark Rum
  • 1 32-ounce bottle ketchup
  • 1 to 3 teaspoons liquid smoke

Directions:

  1. In a large saucepan, combine brown sugar, black pepper, chili seasoning, mustard, ginger, allspice, mace, and garlic.
  2. Add vinegar, molasses, water, pineapple juice, and rum. Stir until dry ingredients are dissolved.
  3. Stir in ketchup and add liquid smoke.
  4. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
  5. Reduce heat to low, and simmer, covered for 30 minutes.
  6. Serve warm, as a dipping sauce .
  7. Refrigerate unused sauce.
